I used Open Element software (1.57 R9) to publish a web site for the Regina Railway Modellers Association (www.reginarailwaymodellers.org). Everything was fine until I discovered that e-mail sent thorugh the contact page are going off into cyberspace whne being sent. Following a suggestion from our service provider, I changed the CPanel password and then discovered that the Open Element FTP software does not recognize the change and I cannot upload an updated file.
Two question: 1) How do I updated the Open Element FTP password, and 2) where can I find the PHP or SMTP settings to update them? Thanks in advance. p.s. I am a semi-knowledgeable person but not what I would call a terchnical wiz, so please be patient and non-techie if you can.

My experience:
As soon as you change the project, it requires you to enter the (new) password). OE does not carry the preambles when you change the project. And ist looses the prambles of the leaving project. Security reasons. You might want to create the object locally (Project ... Export to Folder), and then transfer the result with FTP (filezilla pe). The destinaton file can not be changed, but ist consecutively numbered with any new output. Caution with that, if you would (auto)re-connect with FP version - it might be the previous one. It is anyway recommended to transfer/upload the complete object form time to time. And to keep a complete copy on some independent media, external hard drive, or cloud. Keep a visible version number, preferrable date&time. Question2: I do not know, Hobby might know. But as far as I kow, it is an external (OpenSource?) product, incorporated (as is) into the OE. Welcome to OE. tschutschutschu here we go ...

Open your project
same tab
Don't hesitate to come back and give some feed back. Meanwhile, here is a note that I intend to send to new forum members: Welcome to the openElement
Forum To acquire better openElement knowledge, my
suggestion is that you spend some time
looking at the video tutorial on this YouTube
playlist. In addition, there are other videos on this other
YouTube playlist You will find several user tutorial here In addition to the models available from
openElement’s library you may have a look to those offered by Sensode In addition to OE’s standard elements, some
additional user designed elements are available
here P.S. It is important that you understand that all
help provided here is given by volunteers. We are not openElement’s staff. We are happy to help when we are available to
provide tips, tricks, and sometimes a few code lines. We appreciate that users
make a serious research and self-study effort. Some of us work in Europe, others around the
world. Consequently, the response time may also depend on time zones. When the requirement is too great, it can be
contracted and the required retribution will pay for the development. Always take care to open a new subject for
each of your questions |

Hello again. Thanks for your help on my earlier question. I managed to change the OE password but had to limit it to 8 characters to get it to work. I can now access the FTP program once again. Rather than fiddle with the e-mail links for too long, I created a new page that displays the same content and used the default e-mail settings. That seems to have worked.
This posting is made under the "David O 2" i.d. I cannot retrieve my password from my original posting, so I had to create a new i.d. My apologies.
