I've designed web sites before, using other design software that is no longer available. I would like to get started redesigning my web site. I chose No template so I could design the way my site looks and is set up. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with how to add images, for example or how to add text. Please advise me on how to get started with this new web site.
Thanks

openElement is a powerfull tool. It manage HTML, CSS and javascript for you but let you manually add some if you wish. Edited by Hobby001 - May 08 2020 at 10:12am |

You can start by creating a site from an existing template such as senslight, sensblack, senswhite or Essential.
These 4 are easier to handle and are responsive. Responsiveness is mandatory.

At the beginning I had the same situation. Let me give some simple recommendations. To clarify some terms, used in oE: A complete website is a 'Project'. To create as Webseite (a project) with oE, it needs a Template. In oE a template is named 'Layer'. Located in the partition 'Layers'. And a Layer is simply like an ordinary website. Can even be converted from an ordinary webpage to a 'layer'. A visible side in oE is named 'Page'. Any portion/part on a page or on a layer is named 'Element'. An element is dragged onto a page or onto a layer. Can be text, image, menu, or a group of elements, p.e. A group of elements comes handy when moving elements. An element can be modified by a 'Style', which gives the element a certain shape or property. 'Styles' can also be created from scratch, but it's simpler to copy one and modify/rename it. May have any name. Avoid special characters, though. The BaseLayer is mandatory, the HomePage is mandatory. Do not rename them. But their contents may be modified, though. The HomePage is converted to index.htm during 'Publish to web' or 'Export to folder' . Everything else can be named as appropriate. A layer can serve multiple pages (which is the purpose of layers). Layers can be stacked. If you change a layer, every page/layer based on that layer will be affected. It is important to know: A Style may define the apearance of text (as 'default'), but an individual specification (font, color, size, link) prevails the style. Images have some 'behaviour'. They have to be 'inhaled' into the oE project, as 'Resources'. Do NOT simply link or implement any image directly from the source. It would work, but it will cause trouble sooner or later, especially if backing up (zip), or copy the project to a different location. It is wise to be made 'known' to oE via the 'Resource' content.Access any image only from oE resources! Images may be 'optimized', means they would be compressed automatically, to cut loading time. If they are known as resources. May not make much sense, if your images are jpegs anyway. It also may not be recommended if the images are to be full quality. Do not repeat that operation, just once per finished project. Project ... Preferences ... Maintenance ... Optimize all website images. If one made a mistake, there is a chance to revive. OE has an internal Recycle Bin. Same is true for any existing 'foreign' template. This is the most important info for a beginner in oE, kept as short as possible. My experience. You may create a 'folder', containing several pages. To keep an order. DO NOT DELETE SUCH FOLDER, it would destroy the project. You may get rid of such folder by deleting it manyually in the project's source, use Windows Explorer. Then reload the project, and the folder should be gone. This is a known bug of oE.
