I must have lost all the .dat files somehow and after an upgrade to the latest version I just can't seem to get the config back up without the .dat files for the pages. I have tried to recover from backups but could only find two pages but also without the proper links to the images.
The site still as it was exported in August 2018 but now I can't use OE to edit it further.
See treed.co.za

What I now have when I open OE, is just raw template pages with just two of my recovered pages.

Can you please advise if there is anyway to recover / build the .dat files or should I start from scratch?

The dat files are either in your project files, in a backup file or in the backup directory on your host.

Thanks for trying to help me so quickly, but really, I have looked every where. There are no more. I could have had some corruption on my system. Cry Other options? Confused

Sadly, I don't see any.  The dat files are the ones used bo OpenElement to understand your project ant to produce the final htm files.

Actually your site takes 9 seconds to display on a 450Mbps download link.   This is very slow.

Your site is not responsive.  The majority of internet search are done on portable devices now.

In other words, it's time to start it all over again.

Yes, if one loses the dat files, one loses the project, too
I learned that, too.
Not a pleasure.

So, every other hour I make a complete plain copy of the project.
Onto a different external drive.
And every week or once a month I transfer a zipped version to my webserver.
Precaution in case of fire or theft.

The good part of such loss is to create a new clean version.

When you upload your site OE offers to put a back-up on the host.  The backup contains all the required files to add to the rest of the site.

OE offers a back-up utility (project, Other, Backup) that creates a full backup in one single zip file.  Every time I plan to change a site, I start by doing a backup this way.  And I keep doing it periodically while I modify it.

Gosh, I wish I'd have such line. In Germany I'm stuck to 10 (ten) MB.

The display takes also many seconds here. So it looks like a slow provider.
The bottom black line takes very long to display.
You might want to use F12 in Firefox/Chrome to investigate what goes on there.

Also keep the images as small as possible.
OE has a function to optimize all images.
Project ... Preferences ... Maintenance ... Optimize all website images
Make a full full copy of the project BEFORE executing the optimization.

The site looks appealing, good job.
