If I look at editing media, I see that there are 5 entries, of which 2 I think come from the template I am using.  There seems to be some repetition in this, which adds to confusion.   However, I don't seem able to delete the built in ones. Is this possible?

Also, what is the logic in deciding which media to use.  I had assumed that the processing starts from the top, and stops when it reaches a match, but this does not seem to make sense looking at the out of the box settings, where the largest screens are listed first.

All medias are used, those that match the current with are "active", and when they style the same thing, those coming later in the list have priority. (You can change the order.) It's like when you code your CSS manually.
Removing media queries is unfortuantely not possible (sure for built-in queries, for added ones I am not sure).
